Recently I read an article about a stranger paying the dinner bill for a family with a Special Needs child, and leaving a nice note on the receipt. They wrote: God only gives special children to special people.
I have a cousin who has a beautiful little girl with Rett Syndrome. She has been a great voice in bringing awareness to Retts and she shares things about it on facebook quite often.
I see children like her, and I think of the people I've come across in my life who are born with severe physical and mental limitations and in my heart of hearts I think of them as God's most precious and perfect of all His children. I fully believe that the body we are given is significant to our earthly missions, and that God does not make mistakes when he's giving us our bodies. I believe that these bodies, so limited in physical and mental capacity, are vessels that guarantee safe passage through this mortality. I believe their occupants were so valiant, so faithful in the life before this one that they proved themselves there, and what was left was the need for a body and a family. And though it must be one of the most emotional trials of life to be the parents of one such as these, I can't help but think of how very blessed these mothers and fathers must be to God.
I think the person who wrote on that receipt had it exactly right. God entrusts his most precious and perfect to His most precious and perfect.
