prayer. it totally works.

I was determined to graduate from college without debt. That goal required me to work all kinds of jobs at all kinds of hours. In Connecticut I'd make enough money to cover the cost of tuition and books for the fall. In the fall I'd make enough money to pay for Spring. That's how it worked. Only... financially ASU was a little more than MCC and in October of my second semester there, I realized that there was just no way that I'd be able to cover the tuition & books for Spring.

I sat down and figured out my schedule. I was working five days a week for a before and after school program. My hours were 6:30 in the morning until 9:00. Then again from 3:30 to 5. In the evenings I was working at a restaurant from 6 to 10- 10:30ish. I was also a full time student & an intern. Toss in my church calling & boyfriend & family obligations -and you'll see that I was a very, very busy girl.

The only holes, the ONLY holes in my schedule were on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 - 11:30. That was it. I was feeling pretty discouraged because really who was going to hire someone who was only available two days a week for two hours? I sent up a prayer and left it at that. I just didn't have time to worry about it more than that.

A few days later my phone rang. The conversation went something like this:

Me: Hello?
Woman: Hi, is this Heather?
Me: It is.
Woman: Oh good. My name is Shelley. Your dad used to be my home teacher, and I think he mentioned that you are an education major. Are you still doing that?
Me: I am.
Shelley: Good! I'm calling because I own a pre-school and one of my teacher's just decided to take a better job and I need someone to take over her class right away. Is there anyway you'd have time to do that?
Me: I'd love to! I just don't know if I can. I've got a really crazy schedule at the moment. When's the class?
Shelley: It's Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I'd need you from 9:30 to 12:30.

(Can we say Miracle?)

But, remember I was only available from 9:30 to 11:30. I had a class. A required for graduation class. I went to the teacher and told her my situation. I asked if there was any possible way I could keep up with the reading and assignments on my own time, and be excused from actually showing up to class. And (second Miracle of that day) she said yes.

I was able to take that job, make the money I needed, and be excused from attending a class that I still got credit for taking. All because prayer works.

You must be living right Heather!
So glad for you!!
Maybe it is the more dedicated scripture reading and that you have encouraged us to also dust of our scriptures and read. You are being blessed by your choices and example.

What a full load you have, where in the world do you find time to do homework?

My daughter was attending MCC. She moved to Mesa four years ago. She just moved back to Provo this summer and is going to UVU. You gals amaze me with working AND going to school!

Keep it up!!!

Great story!!

But I'm just amazed that you don't have any college debt. That's awesome. I WISH we could say that. But no, it'll take years to pay off. :(
