my personal new fall fashion: spit up

I'm covered in it.

Which is better than the other bodily fluids I've worn a time or two (or twelve) since this little boy came into our world!

I've already decided that labor and delivery is the easy part of this whole mom job thing. Don't get me wrong. I love being a mother, but if I told you that I've loved every minute of it I would be lying. I love most minutes, but not every minute. You know? I really don't mind the whole spit up thing. Or those other bodily fluids. Everything is washable, you know? But sleep. Sleep is another story.

Hands down the hardest thing for me to do is pull my tired self from the bed to wake up a sleeping baby to eat. It's so much easier to get up when he's crying for food -but that rarely happens. Turns out my little guy loves his sleep as much as him parent's love theirs. Which I seriously hope this Baby Wise business ends up paying off in however long because WOW I'm exhausted. Completely happy, but exhausted. Totally in love with this sweet little face, but exhausted.

Which is also why the "Mark All As Read" button has become a new best friend of mine. Along with my washing machine and Lansinoh cream and the Boppy. The bink though... well it's a love/ hate thing with us. We try to avoid it mostly.

Anyhow. If I don't get a shower right now the neighbors might start complaining. Also... if I can manage even thirty minutes of sleep, I'm taking it because last night was (another) LONG night,
and I fully expect tonight to be the same. And the night after that one too...

The lack of sleep is really the hardest part of the whole process. Good luck to you! And what a cutie (even with spit up all over him).

Sleep, yes that was hard! Why are you waking him up to eat? I was told, let them sleep. I never had that issue, Austin always woke up every 2 1/2 hours to eat.I had a bunch of friends who were lucky and had their newborn sleeping 6 plus hours a night right away. I was so jealous.

If I were you (and I know some would not agree...including Babywise) I would not wake him up. Michelle Jones got her new babies to sleep all night almost from the beginning and they were fine. If your baby will sleep I say let him! Mine is almost 14 months old and he still doesn't sleep all night. I'm really jealous too!

From my experience (which is not much) I'd let your sweet babe sleep and not wake him up! You will probably be the one suffering in the milk dispensing sense, but it is SO worth letting them sleep. With my first, I woke her up every 3 hours, and she didn't sleep through the night until she was at least a year and that was with lots of crying... with my newest, he sometimes wakes up once and sleeps like a champ... I read all those baby books and nothing worked... I say let him sleep so you can rest! It is SO much harder to wake a sleeping baby to eat than feeding a baby who has woken up to eat. He'll wake up and eat when he's hungry!! He's so cute! And spit up is the new pink... or so I've decided!!

We nicknamed one of our kids the "barfo baby". Such fun. Hey, he looks a little jaundice... has he been tested? Concerned.

Yes. He was jaundice. We took this picture before he was put under the lights for about 36 hours. He's fine now.

Also... I'm not waking him up at night, only during the day. There have been about 10 people who have sworn up and down by the Baby Wise method and so I've been trying to do what they recommend.

I think with any method, you'll get 10 people swearing up and down for AND against it. So just do what works best for YOU, whether it's Baby Wise or something different. People will always recommend things to new moms, but you and your babe will figure out what works for YOU! :)

Well we had the flu at our house so this week I was covered in poo and actual vomit. I miss that baby vomit, it smells, but it doesn't smell as bad as the stuff I was cleaning this week.

The soothie binkies were the best, and we only used them for the first 4 months (I know what you mean about the love hate relationship). My little guy started sucking his thumb after that. Thumb sucking, is great- until they don't stop. But sage now only sucks his thumb when he is tired, so its kinda taken care of itself.

Sy was just like that. I used to say "Why do I get all dressed up for church, I should just wear a garbage bag instead" :-)

Wow, he is so adorable. So so adorable. Even covered in his goop. I'm with a few others here, don't wake up your baby... I mean, do what you think is best, obviously, but my babies have been sleepers, and that's been great for me! Can I recommend a different book that isn't so so so "harsh?" It's called "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." And it just makes sense. You're probably sick of people telling you what to do... :o) But man, if that little man is sleeping longer at night. Let him. Oh, let him, and let yourself!
