good morning mrs. hannigan.

This morning it occurred to me, that I am very lucky that my parent's didn't abandon me on the doorstep of an orphanage. Let me explain.

My natural temperament is less than angelic. Anybody (with the exception of Aunt Merrilee) who knew me as a tot will tell you, I was a handful. I was a strong-willed, violent, button-pusher, who was ticked-off if I things weren't going exactly my way.

If you are a parent you know that ear infections are of the devil. The Little Pirate, normally a very sweet child, morphs into a discontented raptor when he has ear infections, which he happens to have two right now. (I am accepting pity, thank you.)

Anyhow... How does this relate to the fact that I'm not BFFs with Annie?

I had 22 ear infections before I was 2. That averages out to ear infections pretty much every month of my life for two solid years. My poor mother. My poor, poor mother. If The Little Pirate is this temperamental, I can only image the little devil child my mom had to deal with day in and day out.

I called her today expressly to thank her for not giving me to an orphanage, nor selling me to gypsies.

I know there had to be days it crossed her mind.

Bill Cosby talks about the "curse." He said it works. It's a mom curse. We get one that was exactly like us.

Hang in there, hon. I'm glad you've accepted my pity! :)

Most days my kids are priceless, but some days I want to put a price tag on them and sell them. This Motherhood job is the hardest thing I have ever done! Hang in there.

Ear infections are the worst...my first son had a ton of them (one would clear up and a week or two later we would be all infected again). I spent too many nights pacing the tiny halls of my apartment with him. So you have a ton of pity coming your way from me! Good luck, you can do it...and yes, even without ear infections I still want to sell mine sometimes :)

So sad! I can sympathize. My Tyson had at least one a month (ranging from one ear, directly into the other, then a whopping double... seriously constant!) from Oct 2010 until March 2011. He did not sleep, he did not eat well, he was not the happiest camper, but was a trouper!! I took him to an ENT who did a 5 min. surgery to put tubes in to help drain... ZERO since! It's a life saver, and life changer!!

You were never a devil child! Just the cutest redhead little girl who had a mind of her own. I always think back to those pictures I have of you and your Mom fighting over the watermelon rind! They say it all! But you were precious. I don't think she ever felt like dropping you off at the orphanage but she did need a break once in a while.. And I loved to help her!
