ear infections are of the devil

I decided this last night, while the Little Pirate and I were not sleeping. One of us was screaming & the other one of us was only crying. Okay, so I wasn't actually shedding tears, but I kind of was on the inside. It's sad to watch the babe suffer, yes, but lets not lie. I think I was crying more for the lost sleep that I seriously needed & will have no opportunity to get back. Does this make me a bad mother? Maybe it does.

Anyway... I was filtering through all the things my various friends have recommended for ear infections, and I think they've all become one giant knotted mess in my brain. I seem to remember something about garlic oil and something else about apple-cider vinegar? Anyone want to help me sort it out? What do you do?

Also: Murphy: I hate you. For the record.

Also: Pray we get to sleep tonight.

Also: Thank you.

I'll say a prayer for you and your little guy. Hang in there.

I've heard melaluca works great, however you've probably already tried it. You're not a bad Mom. Just a tired one. Be glad for the times you have with him. Try and cherish (after, not usually during) even the crazy long nights of crying fits for both of you. My youngest brother died on Monday morning and all I can think is how grateful I am for every minute... no matter what that minute is. Good luck. I'm glad you were able to get home!

Garlic oil works, too.

Amen and Amen. I am an antibiotic girl all the way when it comes to ear infections and babies. I know it works. And they are rare in my babies.

I've gone through the newborn and baby stage 3 times now and every sleepless night I get, I just think of my older two and how they put them self to bed a lot and sleep through the night every night. And I just remember that this wont last forever and soon my baby will be grown up and I'll be able to sleep all night again. They sleep all night for the rest of their lives, and this "baby" part is only temporary.

My son had chronic ear infections, aka, no sleep for 6 months, seriously he woke up every night, everyday and would just scream and cry, so sad! Antibiotics are wonderful, and I would go back and forth between Tylenol and Ibuprofen to see which seemed to help with the pain. My little man hase tubes in his ears and it has been life changing for us. His infections would not completely heal, so I would also suggest going to your doctor for a recheck about a week or so after he's finished the antibiotic. Just to make sure his ears are clear. Good luck! No sleep is hard, but you learn to live with it, sad but true. I also take Melatonin to help me sleep :)

I have been told (but never did, hard to think straight on no sleep/holding a screaming child) that warm olive oil infused with garlic works wonders on numbing the pain and healing...also if you have a good chiropractor they can get the fluid released that harbors the infection.
